KOTOR 2 is the more interesting game, with a story that feels more at home eviscerating all of those Star Wars tropes and characters yous'd have wanted. Shame it's not consummate.

I also think being an RPG hurts the story of KOTOR2. So much of the story is focused on the Exile's thoughts, feelings and backstory but the game can't actually explore any of that in depth because they're a silent protagonist. The story probably would have been much better of if the Exile was a fixed character with a proper grapheme arc just that was never going to happen.

KOTOR 2 on the other manus was just a rocky experience. The opening mission only drags, and has a very subdued and bumming energy. Information technology becomes more than interesting with the introduction of the morally greyness characters and themes subsequently, merely I honestly can't for the life of me recall the overall story or grapheme arc of the chief character. I institute the entire scenario and story unmemorable. I likewise had a game breaking bug toward the end of the game and realized I had to replay the whole thing, which really killed my express enthusiasm for the game. It just remains in my memory a very sour experience, albeit unique for Star Wars.

However, they are both incredibly special games and KOTOR 2 is spectacular and even surpasses the beginning in many ways. The only thing holding it back is the fact that it was rushed. Everything else is at that place and you can tell the appetite and ideas were super strong overall - it simply lacks a little smooth.
I'm obsessed with the music in 2.

The chills I'd get whenever this would pop up on the splash screen.

And yes, Kreia carried a lot of it - I don't remember I would pick ii over 1 had she not been in.

Vanilla KOTOR 2? Or does the Restored Content Modern count?
Both
- #67
In that instance, I would say KOTOR 2: RCM > KOTOR > Vanilla KOTOR 2
Vanilla is merely an incomplete game and suffers profoundly from that, IMO

KOTOR 2, while having some great writing, is not a complete story fifty-fifty with all the mods. It is fashion too long with an completely overstretched opening. And too gets way as well total of itself. I know people detect it all deep and all that, but it goes nowhere with all the depth. It but peters out.
Kreia and KOTOR2 in a nutshell:
- #70
KotOR 2 probably would take been improve if information technology had been finished and could actually have properly tied itself together merely alas
- #71
In that location's no grapheme like Kreia in most of Star Wars (I just say most considering I haven't consumed literally all SW media). K1 is very good (second favoritegame of mine, backside K2), only thematically is very much a typical Star Wars narrative
- #72
I need to get effectually to going back to 2. I've been meaning to do then, I just keep getting distracted with other stuff.

KOTOR 2 has the better gameplay
- #75
this is 100% truthful. And it's even better with the restored content mods.Kotor ii is the best star wars story put to newspaper and that's even in it's unfinished state. The combat is improve, the characters are better, the story is better, the themes!

The theme of the Jedi in KOTOR two (The Rebuilt Jedi Enclave) is such an amazingly bittersweet music.
I've seen people compare TSL to TLJ just that it came commencement and went harder on the criticism of the Jedi and Sith and I accept to agree.
Add together that music with the scene betwixt the quango, Kreia and you and it simply hits dwelling.
If but information technology had been finished.
- #77
Kotor ii is non at all similar to The Terminal Jedi lolI've seen people compare TSL to TLJ but that it came first and went harder on the criticism of the Jedi and Sith and I accept to concord.

A hypothetical KOTOR 2 with the total game and bugfixes is head and shoulders above the beginning.
KOTOR one was very much bioware dumbing their writing downwards in club to give people the platonic platonic of a star wars game. It'south simplistic, binary and nowhere virtually equally circuitous or compelling as anything else they've done. Information technology also had to suspension all that ground on its lonesome.
To employ a star trek metaphor: KOTOR is The Side by side Generation. It is substantially everything you lot liked about the previous versions of the product boiled down to their core essentials and the excess baggage trimmed away, so polished to a mirror sheen. It'due south not actually bringing anything NEW to the franchise, information technology;s just the best version of what was already there.
KOTOR two is Deep Space Nine.
A finished kotor 2 really challenges and deconstructs the things we take for granted most the series and enquire whether those things are skilful or bad. Crucially it does not force and answer on united states of america. You lot can just equally easily call Kreia out on her bullshit and signal out the flaws in her logic as you can agree with her or flat out determine you don't care either way. As a outcome I feel like information technology manages to transcend the existing star wars work, but at the toll of non really working as star wars. Kotor is the all-time SW has to offer, whereas TSL is like a whole other kind fo work that just and so happens to be at the same time.

KoTOR is a game for people who knows Star Wars is for children and revel in information technology.
- #81
When you recollect almost it, Kreia'southward ultimate plan is but a "Kill everything and anybody" kind of a plan.KoTOR2 is a game for people who think Star Wars is for children and want something that looks smarter.KoTOR is a game for people who knows Star Wars is for children and revel in it.

I love both of them, merely Kotor 2 is the game that me equally an adult would rather go to.
- #88
It'southward got the more than fleshed out gameplay, better option and event system and a vastly more interesting narrative. The characters are too but directly up better and it even manages to make Revan a expert graphic symbol, where in KotOR ane Revan was a bit of a nix character (which, granted, was by pattern to protect the twist, just still).

While Kreia is kind of like this (simply likewise not really, equally she clearly points out she dislikes any sort of indecisiveness or aloofness), KotOR 2 in general absolutely isn't and I always find it a bit weird that people have this idea that "be morally grey" is the message the game is sending.Kreia and KOTOR2 in a nutshell:![]()
Similar, yeah, Kreia (and the game as a whole) is critical of how a lot of Star Wars comes down to "this is always skilful, this is e'er evil, at that place is no in-between", just the game ultimately doesn't hold with Kreia's betoken of view. Kreia is still clearly the villain in the finish who essentially wants to commit mass genocide on a galactic calibration and has lied to y'all throughout the entire game.

Merely two? What an utterly fascinating story; I recollect it'due south objectively the better game and a timeless entry into Star Wars lore.

While Kreia is kind of like this (but as well not really, equally she clearly points out she dislikes any sort of indecisiveness or apathy), KotOR 2 in general absolutely isn't and I ever detect it a bit weird that people have this idea that "be morally greyness" is the bulletin the game is sending.Like, aye, Kreia (and the game every bit a whole) is disquisitional of how a lot of Star Wars comes down to "this is always good, this is always evil, there is no in-between", only the game ultimately doesn't agree with Kreia's bespeak of view. Kreia is nonetheless clearly the villain in the stop who essentially wants to commit mass genocide on a galactic scale and has lied to you throughout the entire game.
I generally agree, but I tin can't blame anyone for thinking that the 'moral grey' stuff was the message of the game. The game subject'southward the player to Kreia's extended monologues about how helping people is bad or what not, and these ideas are never meaningfully challenged considering the person on the receiving finish of all these monologues is the silent RPG protagonist. I remember the overall bulletin of the story would probably be better communicated if the Exile was a fixed protagonist who could have actually meaningful exchanges with Kreia, only for obvious reasons that would be disappointing in an RPG.
It as well doesn't assistance that Avellone did the same 'self-insert grapheme who hates all the things most the setting that I do' schtick in the Fallout: New Vegas DLCs (although I will say that Kreia is much more tolerable than Ulysses).
I'll likewise add that the statement that 'the game doesn't concur with Kreia because she ends upward beingness the villain with a genocidal programme' doesn't really agree water because her plan to kill the forcefulness is merely another i of her lies and her real goal is for the Exile to be strong enough to help Revan fight the truthful Sith.
